With the ‘Rough n Rowdy’ bout between Patrick Mahomes Sr and John Rocker recently being scrapped, Mahomes is hoping to cash in on his fame at a convention.

But a recent arrest will mean that the former baseball star will have to seek permission from a judge in order to attend.

According to TMZ Sports, Mahomes is hoping to attend a sports card convention in Minnesota from April 12-13.

However, in order to attend, he’s asked a Texas judge for permission to leave the state after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated last year.

The outlet reports that the judge is still considering Mahomes’ request. If the ex-pitcher and father of Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes is allowed to attend this convention, he’ll need to abide by the rules of his probation.

He would also be required to take a urine test when he returns to the state.

An amateur boxing match between Mahomes and Rocker was set to take place about a month from now on April 19 as a part of Barstool Sports’ combat series.

But just days after the pair appeared to have a bust-up outside a New Orleans bar, which would later be revealed as a publicity stunt to promote this bout, Barstool president Dave Portnoy said the fight had been cancelled.

He revealed on a podcast that the bout – set to be held in West Virginia – was called off, adding that his son and his daughter-and-law could have had something to do with that decision.

‘Mahomes’ agent, [the football player], and Brittany – from what I am told – intervened and were like, ‘There’s no way this fight’s happening,” Portnoy said. ”We’re going to cut this guy off if he does it.”

‘Listen, if they want to fight, let them fight,’ he added when pressed on the publicity the fight would have garnered for Barstool.

Mahomes Sr had been granted permission to travel to New Orleans to watch his son, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, play in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles – a game the Chiefs ultimately lost.

Rocker and Mahomes Sr were members of rival teams in the 1999 and 2000 seasons – with Rocker on the Braves and Mahomes Sr on the Mets.

Mahomes Sr last played baseball in 2003 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, but in recent times has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

He was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 2008, 2019 and 2024, and last year was banned from driving after being found on the roads without a valid license.

He spent 10 days in jail and is now under ‘intense supervision’ in his first year of probation.

Rocker is known for his controversies as well. In a 1999 interview with Jeff Pearlman of Sports Illustrated, Rocker made a series of racist and homophobic statements in a highly-publicized and discussed interview.

Rocker, who was with the Atlanta Braves at the time, called Curacaoan teammate Randall Simon a ‘fat monkey’ and used racial stereotypes toward Asian women driving on the road.
