The UFO phenomenon appears to occur in distinct phases, with certain locations inexplicably becoming focal points for these strange occurrences. One notable instance unfolded in Canada, where a tangible piece of evidence in the form of a copper disk, believed to be left behind by extraterrestrials, added a layer of mystery to the phenomenon.

Edmonton, Alberta, witnessed a series of peculiar events in 1967. On May 8, 1967, at approximately 2 a.m., a 14-year-old named Ricky Baynard reported seeing a spherical spacecraft in the sky. Described as having red and green lights, along with rotating top and bottom portions, the craft emitted a strong white light beam that scanned the ground below. As the object approached a graveyard, Baynard fetched his friend, Glenn Coates, and they observed the unusual event. The craft hovered between 200 and 300 feet in the air, emitting a muted whistling sound. A white ribbon of light extended from the bottom, creating a rectangle approximately 15 cm above the ground. The earth beneath it appeared white-hot. The light vanished as Baynard emerged from the woods, followed by what sounded like a plane taking off. Rectangular-shaped black streaks were found on the gravel road in the cemetery where the light had struck the ground.

This sighting drew widespread attention, attracting curious crowds to the cemetery each night. Baynard’s drawing of the UFO further fueled public interest. Additional witnesses reported seeing a spherical UFO with red and blue flashing lights and a beam emanating from beneath it. The series of sightings in the summer generated significant media coverage and discussion.

In November 1967, a particularly bizarre incident occurred when an Italian immigrant known as “L.R.” witnessed an extremely bright red light streaking through the sky near the Saskatchewan River. The circular object pulsed with a brilliant red light before displaying an ethereal blue ring. It dropped toward the earth, disappearing, and a smaller light exited from the bottom, followed by additional blue rings. While the larger object remained motionless, the smaller one, resembling a silver sphere with a faint violet glow, hovered over a golf course before disappearing. L.R. later found a flattened circle of grass and discovered a thin copper plate with symbols resembling hieroglyphs. He kept the plate a secret for years, considering it a lucky charm.

Six years later, L.R. returned to Italy with the copper plate, and its existence reached UFO researcher Daniela Giordano. Despite L.R.’s reluctance to study the plate, Giordano managed to capture the only known image of it. Unfortunately, L.R. later lost the plate after his car was seized by the police, and it was never recovered.

The mysterious incident raises questions about the connection to other sightings in the region and the significance of the copper plate. Was it intentionally left behind or accidentally dropped? Does it hold a hidden message, or was it a mere prank? The disappearance of the plate adds an additional layer of intrigue, leaving the true nature of the phenomenon shrouded in mystery.
